The 2015-2016 session of the USVMC will meet the first and third Saturdays of each month at the Public Library for Union County. Like last year we will meet from 3 to 4ish. Looking forward to doing some math this year!

## Escher paintings and tessellations

In this meeting we talked about the symmetry of frieze patterns, paying special attention to the paintings of M.C. Escher.

See you in April!

## Proofs without words

Today we saw how to prove some facts from arithmetic using pictures and basic geometry.

Download this to see the kind of stuff that we did.

## No math circle this week

Due to frozen pipes at the library, we will not be having math circle this weekend.

See you in March!

## Four dimensional space

In this meeting we learned a little bit about how to think in higher dimensions and the analogies between regular 2-dimensional space and higher dimensional space.

See here for the kind of stuff we did.

See you in two weeks!

## Bell changing

For our first meeting of 2015 we had a special guest! Jeff Bowen stopped by to introduce us to the mathematics of bell changing. Check this out to get an idea of what he showed us.

We will meet on February 7th.

## Arithmetic puzzles

For the last meeting of the Fall Semester, we worked together on some challenging problems related to simple arithmetic (PDF).

We will meet again next year. See you January 17th, 2015.
